Who is Firestone Walker: the story of an iconic brewery

In 1996, in a warehouse in California, the Firestone Walker brewery was secretly founded. Adam Firestone, great-grandson of the Firestone Tire founder, and his brother-in-law David Walker, of British origin, shared a dream: to find the perfect beer. Failing to do so, they decided to create it themselves.

The first fermenters were made from American oak barrels, borrowing equipment from the wine world. From that experiment, Double Barrel Ale was born, a beer that already embodied the encounter between the American spirit and English brewing tradition.

Paso Robles and the turning point with Matt Brynildson

In 2001, the brewery moved to Paso Robles and welcomed Matt Brynildson to the team, who still leads the project as brewmaster today. From that moment on, Firestone Walker's IPAs: clean, balanced, and award-winning, with Union Jack at the forefront, became a benchmark for American craft beer.

The creative soul: barrel aging and wild ales

Since 2005, Firestone Walker has entered a phase of intense experimentation. Barrel aging produces spectacular results: first with the Proprietors' Vintage Series, then with Barrelworks, the laboratory dedicated to Belgian lambic-style wild ales, located in Buellton.

In 2011, the Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Fest was also born, an international festival that quickly became one of the most anticipated events for enthusiasts and producers worldwide.

Firestone Walker 2026: thirty years to celebrate

In 2026, Firestone Walker celebrates its 30th anniversary with a year full of special events, including the usual Invitational Beer Festival in Paso Robles and the Walker's Wild Ride, a traveling tap takeover tour that brings the brewery to the places that made it successful.

2026 novelties available on QBA

We are bringing some of this year's most anticipated releases to Italy, including Barrelworks and the IPA line.

Primal Elements – Barrelworks

From the Buellton cellar comes Primal Elements, a sour ale that embodies the philosophy of the Californian laboratory: raspberries, blueberries, and monk fruit, macerated and aged in French oak barrels. The color is an intense ruby red; the olfactory profile is dominated by fresh raspberry, with hints of blueberry and an acidity balanced by the sweetness of the fruit. A beer that surprises with its immediacy and complexity.

Mixed Pack IPA 2026 – The 30th Anniversary Manifesto

The 2026 Mixed Pack is a celebration in four cans. Union Jack and California IPA return with a new graphic design, joined by:

  • Easy Jack: the iconic 4.2° Session IPA returns, with Mandarina, Mosaic, and Citra hops. Tropical and citrus aromas in an easy-drinking and refreshing format, perfect for summer. A long-awaited return after its 2014 debut.
  • Diesel Thunder: An 8° DIPA born at Propagator. Nelson, Citra, and Columbus Cryo provide an intense profile of resinous pine and passion fruit, with that characteristic "diesel" note that gives the beer its name. Powerful, yet surprisingly balanced.

Why choose Firestone Walker

From an improvised shed to a symbol of American craft: in thirty years, Firestone Walker has demonstrated a unique ability to innovate without losing its identity. Every beer, spanning different styles and fermentations, is the result of authentic and consistent research. We at QBA are proud to bring this story directly to Italy.
